A Challenge For Each And Every One Of Us
It’s about a fairer, kinder and more joyful world.
There is a tsunami of discussion rolling around the world about sexual abuse by predators. It started as a ripple and now has become a tsunami.
The challenge I see for each and every one of us to not lose sight of the underlying malaise that has caused the problem in the first place – inequality.
Wherever you have one person or group of people, who has or have power over another person or group of people and that power is used to exploit, humiliate, abuse or power-over, you have inequality.
The challenge I see for each and every one of us is not to lose sight of the fact that many of these inequities are entrenched into societal norms. The starkest of these is the economic, political and societal divide between men and women. There are many others, of course, but this one affects 51% of our world population – the women and girls of the world.
There have been physical, historical and economic reasons why this divide has been created. It is now well and truly entrenched into the fabric of our human culture all around the world.
The challenge for each and every one of us is to see how we can make changes that will address this inequality without ripping the fabric of our society apart or worse hiding it further into the dark corners of humanity.
For the women of the world who have suffered discrimination and abuse, I challenge you to not demonise every man on this earth and tar them with the same brush. I challenge you to envision what you want for women and men and girls and boys that will change this inequality.
For the men of the world, I challenge you to look at the disparity that has been created and speak out against it wherever you see that it has become entrenched in abuse and discrimination. I challenge you to envision what you want for men and women and boys and girls that will change this inequality.
Do we want to spend our time finding and analysing every act of abuse and discrimination, or do we want to spend our time finding a positive way forward?
Yes, let’s find, legally and fairly punish the worst offenders but let’s not spend our time and resources on the minutiae. Let’s not spend our time looking under every rock for every misdemeanour that has been inappropriate but, in some ways, acceptable behaviour by societal norms.
We must remember that when we destroy men there is always collateral damage, and this is usually women and children. Women and children still rely on men for most of the financial support.
Let’s spend our time implementing a positive way forward together with constant vigilance to ensure that change happens.
I know from personal experience that there will need to be time for the victims of abuse and discrimination to process the hurt and humiliation. I also know from personal experience that anger about what has happened only feeds disempowerment.
My contribution to the change that I want to see is to create my Women’s Empowerment and Leadership programs. We need more women leaders everywhere. My program addresses our unique neuro-programming and the parent-work energy conflict. These are the two main issues that women need to understand and work around so that we can stand strong as women leaders everywhere.
I dare each and every one of us to see that we are all human trying to make the best lives we can. I dare each and every one of us to ensure that it is a fair and equitable life for all. I dare each and every one of us to inspire and motivate each other to be the best we can be for each other and throughout our life.
My next Women’s Empowerment and Leadership Program is scheduled for 1st and 2nd March 2018. Go to http://denise-gibbons.com/
